Supporting Therapies
Based on the literature following the ILADS guidelines and based on our experience, a successful Lyme disease treatment needs so called "supporting therapies" and a "change of lifestyle" for a the recovery process.
"Supporting therapies" in terms of a holistic therapy concept can have the following effects:
- Better compatibility and effectiveness of the antibiotics
- Strengthening of the immune system (holistic)
- Pain relief (even for chronic pain)
- Milieu change to create an "unfavourable situation" for further reproduction of Borrelia bacteria
- Detection of „hidden“ Borrelia bacteria in the connective tissue
- Fewer production of inflammation supporting Cytokine and regulation of Th1/Th2 balance
- Treatment of depressive mood (i.e. increase of serotonin levels)
- Support of organ functioning (liver, kidneys, intestine) as well as "flush-out" of toxic substances
- Improvement of body physics.
The BCA-clinic was specially designed to offer patients these supporting therapies along with the antibiotic treatment.
The range of these services can be booked as individual therapies or weekly program. Also important are the possibilities of "self-help", which the patients will be introduced to:
- Individual Therapies: naturopathic therapies, nutrition supplements, broad range of physiotherapies, photon- and electro therapies, nutritional advice, exercise programs - please see details below
- Chronic Lyme Compact Treatment Program in the medical day clinic for 1 or more weeks (
Link) - Information and advice on "self-help" (

The need for a holistic treatment approach and supporting therapies is very well explained in the following book:
"The Lyme Disease Solution" by Kenneth B. Singleton M.D., M.P.H. (Brown Books, Dallas, Texas, 2008 - ISBN-13: 978-1-934812-00-6), www.lymedoctor.com
