Strengthen your Immune System!
Activate your "self-healing powers“ and support your own immune system during the recovery process!
Medicines and nutrition supplements are helpful and necessary. But: you can block or considerably delay the recovery process if you do not contribute to your life style and pay attention to some simple rules.
You should additionally strengthen your immune system and thereby actively support the healing process with very simple measures:
1. Sleep
- At least 7 consecutive hours (interruptions affect the endorphine cycle)
- Regular sleeping hours (no shift-working during night)
- The most important sleep is between 02.00 a.m. and 04.00 a.m. (endorphine production)
2. Drink a lot (app. 30-50ml per kg of your body weight per day),
- Still mineral water (still, non-carbonated) and possibly herbal teas
- Coffee in moderation (max. 3 cups a day)

3. Plenty of exercise outdoors with fresh air and sunshine (if possible in the countryside or forest)
- Most suitable endurance sports within the aerobic range (heart rate freequence): biking, walking, Nordic walking, swimming, inline skating, jogging, hiking, cross-country skiing
- Holiday in an area with „stimulating climate“ for a positive stimulation of the immune system (mountains, North Sea or Baltic Sea)
- Attention: avoid high UV radiance (please cover yourself in the open)
4. Alkaline-based, healthy nutrition as a well-balanced diet
- The diet should be mainly alkaline (as many Lyme disease patients suffer from acidity): potatoes, citrus fruits, alkaline products, alkaline baths, etc.
- Generally plenty of fresh fruit and vegetable (organic if possible)
- Preferably only steamed and not over cooked food
- So-called "Mediterranean- or Crete- foods”: fresh salads prepared with cold pressed olive oil, herbs and spices, a lot of fresh fruit as well as fish instead of meat (pork)
- Use of rapeseed, thistle and linseed oil because of their poly-unsaturated fatty acids (1 tablespoon per day)
- „Don’ts“ (or rarely): convenience/microwave products, canned vegetables, food prepared with preservatives, refined sugar, white flour products (sweet bakery products, pastry products, yeast products- but wholemeal and spelt instead-), fried and particular fat products
5. Avoid toxic and damaging influences:
- Nicotine and all forms of drugs,
- Alcohol (most Lyme disease patients do not tolerate it well anyway),
- Stress in every day life, in private life (relationship) or in professional life
6. Excessive heat
- Increase of the body temperature up to nearly 42°C with sauna, sweating baths, warm cabins, hot mud baths, infra-red sauna, etc.
- "Indurations" with hot-cold water exercises (Kneip).
7. "Balance" in every day life
- Take time for yourself
- Think positively (review „beliefs“ )
- Attend to relationships and friends
- Avoid extremes
- Fill your life with sense
- „Love yourself“
- Be able to talk about your worries to a confidant (confidant who „listens“ to you)

Attention: the recovery process of chronic Lyme disease does not only demand traditional medical treatment, but also a major change of your life style! You have to think about your contribution in terms of "self help" (strengthening of the immune system) and construct individual therapy plans with your physician, which includes the above mentioned rules, therapies, products and exercices (TCM, homeopathy, massages, foot reflexology, techniques for relaxation, electrotherapy, herbal remedies and naturopathy, dietary supplement, etc.).
